Game Design Project

You work for an organization that educates the public about legal issues around the Internet and the World Wide Web. Your organization is looking to put a little fun into an often dry topic to reach the audience with this important information. Your team has been assigned the task of creating a board game that will help people understand your topic related to the Internet and the World Wide Web.

Table of Contents

Topics

Your team will select a topic at random during class. Your team will research the topic and develop a set of at least 25 questions which game players will use to play the game. Each team member should write seven to ten questions about the topic so you will have many to choose from. You can sort through the duplicates to come up with the 25 that you need.

The topics include:

  • Online Ethics
  • Copyright and/or Fair Use (DMCA)
  • Regulations (FTC, FTC, etc.)
  • Legislation (SOPA/PIPA, COPPA)
  • Open Internet
  • Privacy
  • Terms of Service

Requirements:

  • Create a game board using a whatever materials you choose; eg. cardboard, file folder, colored paper, colored pencils, and markers. You can use a popular game as a model for your game or come up with something completely new.
  • Make your game board neat, colorful, interesting, and creative!
  • Create at least 25 questions and answers for your game that relate to your topic. The questions must be incorporated into playing the game. The form of the questions can be a single answer, multiple choice, true/false, etc.
  • Relate the format and purpose of your game to the topic in some way. Example: the game board is in the shape of a castle or the purpose is to escape the evil grandmother.
  • Write directions for your game that would make it perfectly clear how to play the game.
  • Make sure the content and difficulty of your game are right for your topic and for your audience’s abilities.

When you finish creating your game your team should play the game to test it. Your audience must be able to play the game so this is an important step in the process. You may need to refine some elements of the game before it is complete.

When your game is complete another team will play it and write a short review.

The purpose of this assignment is NOT to create the coolest looking game board. The purpose IS to create a game that is fun and educates the audience about your topic.
