To understand the development and application of Virtual Tours using 360° photos.

Description

Create a Virtual Tour that can be used in a business or organizational context, including at least ten (10) navigation points or nodes. The project must also include a minimum of five (5) information pop-ups (text, video, audio) as appropriate.

This project must be executed for a business or non-profit client. This will be easier if you have a business or non-profit client who can give you some objectives and audience; otherwise, you will need to develop the project’s objectives and target audience yourself.

Some example applications include:

  • a campus tour
  • tour of community historical sites
  • indoor tour of a building

Project Examples:

Resources

Hardware

Talk to the instructor about what might be most appropriate for your project and personal objectives for the project. Some equipment requires SD cards or Micro SD cards. Consult with the professor about which equipment falls into this category.

Software

Equipment-specific software may need to be downloaded.

Viewing

  • Web; Computer; Tablet; Phone; Head Mounted Display.

Hosting:

  • Virtual Tour Software Vendor (see above)
  • Website (embedded on a website)

Project Deliverables

Research: (100 pts)

Research three (3) examples of a 360 Virtual Tour similar to the project you intend to create. They should be similar in subject or creative approach. Create a document outlining the following:

  • The Objective: The objective should include what the audience should be able to know, learn, or do after using the example. “I don’t know” is not an example of an answer.
  • The Audience: This should include age, gender, geographic location, socioeconomic level, media, device use, etc. “Not sure” is not an example of an answer.
  • Client or owner for the example (if any.)
  • The Platform: This is the online location or app on which the example project is being conducted.
  • Linked URLs of the examples you find.
  • Analysis: Why are these appropriate examples for your project? Do they use the medium effectively, and why? What works and why? What doesn’t work and why?

You may also include additional sources you found that are not examples but pertain to the media you will use or the topic you will cover. See the Project Brief for details.
