Q&A

Got questions? We’ve got answers! Check out our Q&A page for all the info you need.

How does your trading process work?

You can bring in up to four medium sized boxes of books, video games, unopened puzzles and board games to trade into us at one time. If you have vinyl, DVD’s or CD’s, we ask that you only bring in one box. You can bring in up to four boxes of Blu-Ray’s at a time.

Do I need to set an appointment for trading?

No appointment is necessary to trade with us. You can bring in your items anytime we are open. What we don’t take you can have back or we can donate them for you.

What do I get for the books that I trade in?

We offer either cash or store credit for the items that we can take. Our credit offer is 30% of what we will price the item at in the store. If you have an item that is more desirable, then we can offer a bit more. Our cash offer is always half of our credit offer. So if you bring in an item that we will price at $10 we will typically offer you $3 in credit or $1.50 in cash.

How long does the trading process take?

We can typically get 4 boxes of trade done within 30 minutes. If you have less than that then it will be even quicker. Some days trading volume is higher and it may take a bit longer. We will always give you an estimate whenever you bring your items in. You can also drop your items off and we can give you a call when they are done. If you drop items off and plan to come back at a later date, we are unable to save the items that we did not accept due to space constraints and they will be separated into our donation boxes.

What do you take?

We take books of all different genres. Our software will tell us how desirable a book is and how many we have in the store, which helps us determine if we can take it at this time or not. We also take board games, sealed puzzles, DVDs, CDs, vinyl, Funko Pops, and Pokemon cards. We do have a big backlog of CDs and DVDs so we cannot pay much for them unless they are Blu-rays or very desirable C.

Can I trade in Pokémon cards?

If you have cards that you think are valuable, we ask that you separate them from the other cards that you trade in. We check all prices against sold listings on eBay and offer 40% in credit or 20% in cash. Price will vary based on condition and on how quickly we think a card may sell. We ask that you only bring a few collectible cards for us to look at in one day or you can leave them with us overnight. If you trade in bulk common cards, we will offer you $40 in credit or $20 cash per 1,000. This is right in line with the market rate for bulk common cards.

What items do you not take?

We do not offer cash or credit for ex-library books or Imagination Library books. We also do not offer cash or credit for vinyl that is not popularly known. If items have a strong odor from smoke or from being stored, we may not be able to take them due to people’s varying sensitivities.

What is your return policy?

You can bring items back within a week of purchase if you keep our bookstore sticker on them. This policy is meant to help you if you accidentally buy a book you already have or have some other similar issue. You are welcome to trade in books that you have bought from the store and receive a percentage of what we have it priced at in store credit. Our return policy is not meant for books that you have bought and read 🙂

Don’t see a number that I can call? How can I get in contact with you?

Due to the sheer number of messages that we get a day, we would be unable to answer phone calls. If you have any questions that are not answered on our website, you can contact us through this website. You can also email us at thehappybookstack@gmail.com or message us on Facebook. We are unable to set books aside for you and typically cannot tell you if we have a book in stock. Once you are in the store, we would be happy to help you find a book or check to see if we have something. Due to our limited staff, we have to focus on attending to customers that are in the store.

Can you pick up large quantities of books from my house or estate sale?

Yes, we are glad to pick up large quantities of books from you. We can only offer this if the items are donated. We take in thousands of items a week and have various methods of rehoming books that we cannot use in the store. Our main mission is to keep books out of the landfill, and we would be glad to help you do that by taking all of your unwanted books and media and putting what we can in our store, while rehoming the rest. Please contact us at thehappybookstack@gmail.com or message us on Facebook to set up a free book pickup.
